  • When did local state elections begin pandering to people of other states on a national level to contribute?

Posted by admin on June 29th, 2010 and filed under local | 1 Comment »

Local elections should be represented and supported by the people of that district. Now ANYBODY from ANYWHERE can do anything short of voting for states they don’t even live in! It seems illegal to me. I have strong political beliefs, but I am setting aside whether or not I am liberal or conservative.
You make a good point, Lawrence. I would NEVER compromise the first amendment. I think it’s more an issue of integrity.

I understand the honor behind the argument you present; however, since you don’t forfeit your First Amendment rights when leaving your home state or district, a Federal Law would most likely be unconstitutional. I do not think, however, that would prevent the states themselves from enacting state laws about such concerns.

Edit: I 100% agree, that’s why I think a state law is the best way to go about doing what you suggest.

What is the benefit of a local economy if we use all sustainable energy?

Posted by admin on June 19th, 2010 and filed under local | 7 Comments »

I think the benefit of a local economy now is the use of less fossil fuels. If we change over completely to sustainable fuels, would the world or its local communities benefit from local economies, more than if we continue our large scale international trade? Detailed answers appreciated.

If we switch from oil-based energy reliance to a local resource like biomass it would bring $ to the US that would have gone to the middle east or elsewhere, boosting the US economy. HOWEVER, the real opportunity is not just sustainable energy but a sustainable society – one where we reduce consumption dramatically and insist on renewable natural resources. One where we embrace abundant living (wind and sun, gardens, music, friends) and minimize economic living (oil, steel, walmart, plastic). If that happens, we won’t even think to ask about "economic impact" as a primary concern. But don’t bet your Prius on it!

What is the difference between a local and national sorority? Advantages and disadvantages of both?

Posted by admin on June 17th, 2010 and filed under local | 3 Comments »

What is the difference between local and national sororities? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both? I am currently a member of a national sorority and our local sorority tends to attract a lot of amazing women to there chapter. What attracts people to local sororities?

Local sororities usually have lower dues, fewer requirements for membership, more flexibility in how to run and manage things, more flexibility in programming and nothing dictated from the national organization including rules on alcohol, hazing, visits from national officers etc. I’d take a look at the way you are recruiting particularly if you recruit differently from the local and if the local isn’t part of panhellenic. Cool, fun, involved people recruit more good members.
I recommend reading "I Heart Recruitment" you can get it cheaply off amazon and when I headed recruitment for my chapter it was really useful.

What local community fund-raising events should we consider to make a profit?

Posted by admin on June 8th, 2010 and filed under local | 7 Comments »

Our city yearly puts on a western-themed parade, chili cook-off, rodeo and carnival to raise funds for the local charities. However, over the years our demographics have changed from semi-rural to a more urban, affluent constituency.
Consequently the yearly fund raiser has sufferd from lack of interest and has lost money for the past five years. What alternative functions have your cities found to be profitable?
I should add that the yearly expenses for these functions are above $800,000, so we’re looking for an event, or events, that will bring in around $1,000,000 or more.

If you follow the demographics, then adjust. Invite other groups to join in. Since we have a diverse population, it’s time to celebrate the "Melting Pot" phenomenon.
If your expenses are in the triple digits, then you’re beyond my help. Pare off the fat and write the checks to the charities. When you said a shift from rural to more urban, I figured the town was from 15,000 to 25,000. Hire a consultant!

How to change wireless access from local to local and internet?

Posted by admin on June 6th, 2010 and filed under local | 2 Comments »

Hi, I have two laptops and only one will successfully connect to the internet. The only dif between the two is one says access: local and internet (this one works) and the other only says access: local How can I change the access??? Please & Thank You!

The laptop that cannot get on the internet is not getting an IP address from your router. Go to start—>Run—–>type in cmd——>hit enter

At the prompt type in ipconfig /release, then when it goes back to the command prompt again, type in ipconfig /renew (make sure you put in a space between the word ipconfig and the slash). See if that helps.

The local newspaper is offering a free editorial piece when I buy an advert. How is an editorial piece defined?

Posted by admin on June 3rd, 2010 and filed under local | 4 Comments »

My weekly local newspaper is having a special section on computers etc next week. They are offering a free 200 word editorial piece and a photo if I buy a small advert. The lady I spoke to said is was a way to promote my business.

I have been looking up the definition of an editorial piece, and it seems to be a piece that expresses a personal opinion, and not really a marketing piece.

I want to promote my competetion for a website, and are wondering if that would be crossing the line for an editorial piece. But since the lady said it was a way of promoting my website, I am thinking that I can write whatever I want to.

Just looking for someone who has experience with marketing via newspapers, and who knows whether an "editorial piece" in connection with an advert, is more broadly defined as a promotional piece?

    Thanks!

    Diva has it right.
Write about the general category of goods or services your company offers, including as many testimonials presented as "one user of (this type service) says………"

Then drill down a little deeper and provide the unique differentiating characteristics of YOUR particular brand.

End the article with a renewed endorsement of the general category.

Lots of descriptive language is the key. Try to not write like a sales brochure or a technical piece. Write as if you were having coffee with a friend who has asked you about your company.

Should I get an international vs local fax number for my work at home job?

Posted by admin on May 31st, 2010 and filed under local | 4 Comments »

I am planning to use internet fax for my work at home job and the website allow you to pick between an international or local fax number. Most of my faxes are sent to local fax numbers but having international fax number sounds tempting. What is the advantage and disadvantage of having a international vs. local fax number? Thanks!

Hi, I don’t think the internet fax is safe enough for you to run your business. They always offer the fax numbers that may have been offered to a lot of people. Why don’t you get a fax number for your own. Do you have a phone line and a fax modem? If you have, just purchase some fax software, which enable you to fax directly form your computer. Joyfax Server is quite good as far as I know.
