How do you decide which local news TV channel to watch?

Posted by admin on July 7th, 2010 and filed under local news | 4 Comments »

Our area has about 5 different local news channels and basically I don’t know which one to watch!

I look for the pretty newscasters.

How do you keep your selections for page options and local news – on Yahoo?

Posted by admin on July 4th, 2010 and filed under local news | 1 Comment »

I like to use the compact page and the news on top settings. I also like to have my town – as the local news setting. But I can’t seem to keep those settings. Every time I close Yahoo or minimize and come back – it’s changed all the settings to something else. HELP !!

Are you saving the changes and then restarting computer to save them?
When you are signed in, what zip code do you have listed? It could be defaulting to that.

Also, have you tried setting up your "MyYahoo" page? My preferences all stay good there.

Thats all I could think of.

Is the only way to get true none biased news is to watch local news?

Posted by admin on July 1st, 2010 and filed under local news | 14 Comments »

CNN, FOX, and MSNBC all have a political twist to them. Is the only way to get good old fashioned news is to watch your local news stations, or have they gone to the dogs as well?

Watch CNN (communist news network) and Fox, preferably FBN, and BBC, listen to talk radio and NPR (oddly the taxpayer supported NPR dosn’t practice the "fairness doctrine", it’s all liberal all the time), and read online. Local news services are best for local news, it will still be biased because it’s written by people and most people in journalism tend to be liberal. People from a business or science background, dealing in cold hard facts not political correctness, are not as liberal, they may have a utopian ideal of how the world SHOULD work but they understand the reality of how it does work.

Is it time for newspapers to consolidate majorly into a mix of national and local news by region?

Posted by admin on June 29th, 2010 and filed under local news | 4 Comments »

I think newspapers need to evolve. Papers like USA Today should remain, but with a section added for the local area’s news and sports. Combined like that, I think that’s the only way for newspapers to survive.

    I think it’s a great idea.

Why do you think all newspapers are not going to survive?
Small markets may not support large papers, but seem to do well covering their local news.
Large papers, which offend readers, lose buyers, thereby losing advertisers.
Lets hope the newspaper industry scraps the over 100 year practice of sensationalizing the news. It causes the paper to lose its credibility.
Just report the facts, and let the readers determine what take to apply to them.

I live in Los Angeles and the local news is always talking about Latino gangs targeting blacks?

Posted by admin on June 26th, 2010 and filed under local news | 9 Comments »

How come this is only in the local news? Why is it not national news? It’s disturbing and disgusting.

I live in Beverly Hills so I really don’t see the violence your talking about. I do read about it in the paper and see it on the news. Latinos are also killing other Latinos often as well. They do not bother me and I do not bother them. I like peace.

how do I get a local news show to do a story on my business?

Posted by admin on June 19th, 2010 and filed under local news | 1 Comment »

I am getting ready to start a new business. I have seen morning news shows do a story on other local businesses and I was wondering how I go about getting them to do one on mine. Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest you look at your business just as you would with composing a business plan.

Make a list of all the things you are doing that are not done elsewhere.

Then take these examples and combine them with other trends in the area or nation, and especially events reported on the news.

If national marketing statistics indicate a new or renewed interest in your business, then combine this information with visual examples to interest a news team.

If I knew about your business, I might be able to help more. But just as an example: Heading into Recession, pawn shops and betting parlors are becoming more popular, as are used-clothing outlets and swap shops.

These might be local businesses which are different and newsworthy.

Just opening a hairdressing shop like any other hairdressing shop would not be of interest, and most likely will be on the list of businesses feeling the economic pinch with fewer customers each month.

With restaurants expected to close due to the economic downturn, then what is being done at this restaurant to blunt the impact?

Once you have put your finger on something newsworthy, then contact the local newspaper and television stations with your news tip. For the newspaper, make sure you contact the type of reporter (business, lifestyle, science, environmental etc.) who might be interested.

Hope this these examples and this answer helps you.
