Should I get an international vs local fax number for my work at home job?

Posted by admin on May 31st, 2010 and filed under local | 4 Comments »

I am planning to use internet fax for my work at home job and the website allow you to pick between an international or local fax number. Most of my faxes are sent to local fax numbers but having international fax number sounds tempting. What is the advantage and disadvantage of having a international vs. local fax number? Thanks!

Hi, I don’t think the internet fax is safe enough for you to run your business. They always offer the fax numbers that may have been offered to a lot of people. Why don’t you get a fax number for your own. Do you have a phone line and a fax modem? If you have, just purchase some fax software, which enable you to fax directly form your computer. Joyfax Server is quite good as far as I know.

What tv shows are the best for learning different fight stiles and self defense techniques?

Posted by admin on May 31st, 2010 and filed under tv shows | 6 Comments »

I’m referring to tv shows like fight science and human weapon and I’m wondering if there are more of them that are even more detailed
Just looking for any related documentary or tv show.

You can learn ABOUT different styles and techniques by watching TV, reading books, etc., but if you want to actually learn the techniques — that is, be able to do them — then watching TV is not going to help you, except as part of a professional-quality curriculum. There are some schools that make a good faith attempt at long distance, video instruction. But even so, it is vastly different from actually learning, in person, from a skilled instructor. The main thing is that TV won’t tell you when you are doing something wrong.

Also, as I’ve said many times in answer to similar questions, one has to recognize that "fight styles" (martial arts) and self defense are two different things. If you want to learn self defense, then you need to study SELF DEFENSE. If you want to learn martial arts, then you need to choose and study a particular martial art. These are two different things, and it doesn’t help that so many martial arts instructors confuse their students on this matter.

This all being said, if you do want to be able to watch some shows that will demonstrate effective techniques, I recommend two:

    1. Professional MMA matches like WEC or UFC league competitions. Here you will see actual techniques applied in a fluid, live attempt to defeat an opponent. Sometimes it gets a little boring when the fighters have really similar styles. But sometimes it is pretty good.

    2. Lookup "real fights" or something like that on youtube.com. There you will see what kind of techniques attackers use in real life, and what kind of responses work… and don’t. Youtube also has some pretty good brief presentations on particular techniques. This is good if you already know what you are looking for. For example, if you’ve decided you want to learn to do a jumping spinning roundhouse kick — which is a neat show-off move — you can find some decent tutorials on the Internet.

I thought that Fight Quest wasn’t too bad at demonstrating the fundamental styles and philosophies of different martial arts, but I don’t get Discovery channel any more, and so don’t know if it is still running. You can probably watch past episodes online.

How many episodes of a tv series constitutes one season and how many seasons are there in one year?

Posted by admin on May 31st, 2010 and filed under tv series | 3 Comments »

TV series like House, Monk,or any weekly shows from comedy to drama seem to be on for a couple of months, then they show a season finale. I know a few months later a new season starts. I wondered how many episodes constitute a season and how many seasons are there in a year. I wonder how long does a show have to be on before they reach their 100 episodes.

    Depends on the program,
Like LOST, that will run for another year, and it reached its 100 episode last week.

What tv show does your child watch that annoys you?

Posted by admin on May 31st, 2010 and filed under tv show | 31 Comments »

Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t let my child watch tv on end but I do let her watch like an hour a day. I really don’t like the kids show Teletubbies, I think they are annoying but she really likes them and I will never allow her to watch The Big Comfy Couch because it teaches kids to stuff things down the couch. I also think Barney is stupid. Does anyone else hate a tv show that their kid loves to watch?
Lol! I like The Backyardigans. They are actually one of the few kids shows I can tolerate but I do wish they would get some more episodes. I am sick of watching the same ones over and over again.

well, if it’s something that I really don’t like it’s just not allowed. There are too many other tv/dvd choices out there to waste time watching bad tv. I can think of two kid’s shows that are just not allowed. One is Doodlebops. Creepy, creepy, creepy. Those guys (meaning the males) give me the creeps; my 6yo agrees. Caliou has been on the Do Not Watch list for years. My gripe is that he whines and is naughty without appropriate consequence. For example, he drew all over his sister’s doll’s face and hid the ruined doll. Calliou cried when confronted by Mom; she points out however that sister doesn’t seem all that upset, she’s just happy to have doll back. WHAT? And another time Caliou pulled down the flour, sugar, and honey and mixed it all up (Whee!) on the kitchen floor (ON the floor, not in a bowl on the floor). Mom walks in…"Caliou! What are you doing?!" "I’m making honey cakes, Mommy" is his reply. So mom gets the big broom and the little broom and they have a fun game of cleaning up the mess, after which they don aprons and chef hats and have a little Mom and Me baking time together, making REAL cookies.

Does anyone know why different news stations seem to run the same news stories in the same order?

Posted by admin on May 31st, 2010 and filed under news stations | 6 Comments »

I can’t work out how news stations seem to pick the exact order of stories at the same time almost as though they campare notes….Same with a current affair programs. Anyone know?
I understand why they put certain stories in certain places….what I don’t understand is how they all do it at the same time

I think it’s because stories are placed in order of importance… local breaking news, local news, state news, national/international.
Trust me, we don’t compare notes. But we do, for the most part all have the same pool of sources for our stories. That could be why we seem to run the same stories.
I can’t answer for the current affairs shows, or magazines for that matter… If you look at the covers of the women’s mags… they run stories on the same things at the same time.

What is the best site for Bakersfield local news?

Posted by admin on May 31st, 2010 and filed under local news | 1 Comment »

Looking for a website that has current and frequently updated information on Bakersfield local news and weather. The local paper and tv station websites are too klunky, looking for something more streamlined. Thank you.

I just found this website not too long ago that seems to be updated hourly with all of the local news feeds: http://BakersfieldLocalNews.info I like the compact format and there are pages of news snippets for sports, weather, and local news.
